What if you are a happy owner of Sony's next-gen console PlayStation 3, and it suddenly stops working? If it is your fault, then you'll probably look for some expensive repairs. But if you are not guilty in this awful failure, what if Sony is guilty in breaking your console? All PS3 world now sits steadily and waits for fixes and repairs, and others just observe the biggest console-world scandal from the times of Xbox 360 red rings of death. But how did it happen?Think this is impossible? However this is what happened not so long ago, when firmware 2.40 was released. Happy users finally received long awaited functions, such as in-game XMB menu access and new addition to Online gameplay – Trophies, similar to Xbox360's achievements. However, the joy of having such interesting additions was darkened by many cases of "bricked" consoles after installation of this firmware. One little piece of software turn your PlayStation 3 into the most expensive brick, it becomes fully unoperational. Of course, there is always a tiny chance of bricking when flashing, but it is not just a bad luck – hundreds of cases mean that there are some huge errors in this new firmware. Sony rapidly removed firmware 2.40 from their site, preventing new crashes. However, not all PS3 owners got their consoles bricked. Many of them, who downloaded firmware 2.40, now enjoy the new features on fully working PS3.
Now Sony is working hard above an update which will fix this terrible issue with console “brickage”. New firmware will be numbered 2.41 and will be released in short time. It is interesting, will programmers who made that mistake lose their job? And exists a way to fix already broken PS3's? Will the PS3 update 2.41 fix this issue completely? Time will tell, how this mistake will influence Sony's reputation.
